Hazel's 2024: Writing Roundup

A new year comes with a new newsletter and my novella debut on the horizon.

First of all, happy holidays!

This was a good year for me and my little pen name. Here’s my roundup: I love seeing “By Hazel Zorn” in print. Never gets old.

“The Love of All Seeing Flesh” was published in Dark Matter INK this October in The Off-Season, an Anthology of Coastal Weird. Marissa Van Uden is a wonderful editor. She’s over at Apex now with her own imprint: Violet Lichen Books. (I designed the logo, since I’m bragging.) Marissa is one of the best out there in my opinion and I can’t wait to see what eco horrors she brings into the world next.

Earlier this year (From April-June) I recorded a four-part talk with Podside Picnic, discussing Watership Down. It’s definitely my favorite book (and it inspired my pen name.) I was a grateful participant; just really honored to be a guest. Karlo, Ashley and I were able to analyze the work in depth. Hazel, Fiver, and Bigwig are with me always. Check it out if you have some downtime and want to hear us talking about bunnies. (Episode 1)

And now, the exciting news: I signed my debut with Tenebrous Press. REEF MIND is scheduled to invade your shores around September 2025. I’ve talked to Matt and Alex. I’ve signed the contract. I’ve seen a cover mockup (!!). Publisher’s marketplace announced it all official-like.

I’m so grateful to join the Tenebrous TOC. REEF MIND will be included in their 2025 book club, if you’re interested in their lineup.

Tenebrous also has a print magazine putting out weird horror short stories. I’ve joined the team as a slush reader. Subscribe if that’s your kind of thing, or even better, send in your weirdo shit for us to read!

Finally, if you signed up for my substack your email has synced over to this new platform, where I’ll be hosting my news and publishing updates. (If you’d rather not receive my emails, be sure to unsubscribe. I won’t cry, Much.)

Until the Black Rabbit Comes…

Farewell ❤️ (Happy New Year)
